Vokalensemble 1600 is an “acappella” Renaissance ensemble formed in 2018 in Munich. The amateur singers and their conductor Christoph Hauser are dedicated to the accurate and multifaceted performance of polyphonic music composed around the year 1600.
Their repertoire includes motets and masses by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Peter Philips, Clément Jannequin and others, combining pieces of famous and lesser known composers mainly of the Renaissance period.
The Vokalensemble 1600 aims to perform several concerts every year, mostly in Bavaria. The members are always keen to collaborate with other musicians and to go on journey together. In 2022, they were invited to perform in Vienna and Berlin.
Christoph Hauser, was born in the Allgaeu, Germany. At the age of 6, he started his music education and when he was 14, he received his first organ lesson with the organist of the famous Basilica in Ottobeuren.
After finishing school, he studied at the University for Music and Theatre in Munich organ performance and choral conducting with Harald Feller and Roderich Kreile, passing his exam with distinction.
Hauser has taken master classes with many leading artists including Ben van Oosten, Ton Koopman, Guy Bovet and Pierre Pincemaille.
He has lectured at the University for Music in Munich and the Academy of Music at the Bavarian School for the Blind and performed in radio and television broadcasts such as the Bavarian Broadcasting Company.
As of 2014, Hauser was appointed the organist of the world famous baroque organ at the Fuerstenfeld Minster in Fuerstenfeldbruck. He is the artistic director of the Lassus-Chor and the Vokalensemble 1600 in Munich, both of them specialised in the renaissance repertoire.
Hauser regularly performs in Germany and abroad including USA, Canada, Israel and Belarus, participating in concert series and well known festivals. His CD recordings are highly acclaimed, the first recording of the Fux organ "per vibrationem aeris" by Christoph Hauser was released in 2020.
